Even if one cannot eliminate negative emotion (it has value), one can always reduce it by distracting oneself to a topic which is easy to appreciate every time one feels the temptation to indulge in negative emotion. As we reduce negative emotion and increase positive emotion through the day, everyday, we allow the law of attraction to match us up with experiences which make us feel the same i.e. even more positive. We may still have one odd experience here and there which has the potential to make it easy for us to choose negative emotion but mostly, there will be experiences which make us feel better as we are predominantly, consistently and consciously creating more feel good moments for ourselves on a daily basis by focusing on topics or in ways which make us feel better.
